When I try to understand Bhuvaneshwari Mahavidya, I do not see her simply as a goddess associated with the physical universe. In fact, to me, her deeper significance lies in the profound idea of the vast field within which all creation becomes possible.
In the previous part, I discussed Bhuvaneshwari through the concept of space and consciousness. Here, I want to take that understanding one step further. Specifically, we will explore her relationship with Shakti, creation, cosmic manifestation, and preservation.

আমার কাছে মা ভুবনেশ্বরীর তত্ত্ব শুধু এই দৃশ্যমান জগৎকে সৃষ্টি করার গল্প নয়। বরং যে অসীম শক্তি ও পরিসরের মধ্যে সৃষ্টি প্রকাশিত হতে পারে—মা ভুবনেশ্বরী সেই গভীর তত্ত্বকে বুঝতে সাহায্য করেন।
1. Bhuvaneshwari as Divine Shakti
In Shakta philosophy, Shakti represents the dynamic, active principle of existence. Shiva is traditionally understood as pure, unmoving consciousness, while Shakti represents the vital power through which consciousness becomes expressive and creation manifests.
Consequently, we can contemplate Bhuvaneshwari as an essential aspect of this universal Divine Shakti. She is the primordial power through which the unmanifest finds the necessary space to become manifest.
Furthermore, we do not need to interpret this as a literal mechanical description of how the physical universe was scientifically formed. Instead, it serves as a sublime spiritual and philosophical framework for understanding reality.

শক্তি বলতে আমি শুধু কোনও অলৌকিক ক্ষমতা বুঝি না। শক্তি হল প্রকাশের ক্ষমতা। একটি ভাবনা মনে জন্ম নিল, তারপর সেটি কাজে প্রকাশ পেল—এখানেও শক্তির একটি সহজ উদাহরণ দেখা যায়। তেমনই শাক্ত দর্শনে বিশ্বপ্রকাশের পিছনের গতিশীল নীতিকে শক্তি বলা হয়েছে।
2. Cosmic Creation Requires Space
Before anything can appear in manifest form, there must be an open field in which it can appear.
For example, a sound requires space to travel, and a physical object requires space to stand. Similarly, thoughts arise within the boundless field of awareness. Traditional philosophical interpretations of Bhuvaneshwari connect her with the cosmic space (Akasha) that accommodates all manifestation.
This is one reason I find the symbolism of Bhuvaneshwari particularly profound. She does not merely represent objects within the universe; symbolically, she points toward the limitless vastness that allows everything to exist.

3. The Movement from the Unmanifest to the Manifest
Indian philosophical traditions frequently distinguish between what remains unmanifest (Avyakta) and what becomes fully manifest (Vyakta).
A tiny seed contains the complete blueprint of a tree, but the tree is not yet visible to the naked eye. Likewise, countless creative possibilities exist before taking a recognizable form.
Bhuvaneshwari’s association with cosmic manifestation reflects this fundamental principle. She represents the vast Divine matrix in which hidden potential can gradually assume tangible form. Therefore, creation is not merely a single past event; rather, it is a continuous movement from latent potential to active expression.

4. Bhuvaneshwari and the Three Cosmic Functions
Hindu philosophical traditions describe cosmic activity through three continuous processes:
- Srishti: Creation and emergence
- Sthiti: Preservation, sustenance, and balance
- Laya: Dissolution, transformation, and return
Although different lineages associate these functions with specific forms of Shakti, Bhuvaneshwari’s symbolism serves as the vast container within which all three functions occur:
- Forms appear.
- They remain sustained for a period.
- Eventually, their forms dissolve and transform.
Yet, through all these cycles, underlying existence continues to unfold effortlessly.

আমরা প্রতিদিনই সৃষ্টি, স্থিতি ও লয়ের ছোট ছোট উদাহরণ দেখি। একটি সম্পর্ক তৈরি হয়, বহু বছর থাকে, কখনও তার রূপ বদলে যায়। একটি বাড়ি তৈরি হয়, বহু প্রজন্ম সেখানে থাকে, একদিন সেটিও পরিবর্তিত হয়। তাই সৃষ্টি ও লয়কে আমি শুধু ধর্মীয় ধারণা হিসেবে দেখি না; জীবনেও এই চক্র প্রতিনিয়ত চলছে।
5. Shakti Is Not Separate from Creation
An essential principle within Shakta thought is that Divine Shakti does not sit somewhere outside the universe controlling it like a detached spectator.
On the contrary, the universe itself is an active expression of Shakti. Nature, planetary movement, organic growth, transformation, human thought, and life itself all reveal the presence of dynamic cosmic energy.
In this understanding, Bhuvaneshwari is never confined to an image inside a temple. Her iconography becomes a doorway to an expansive spiritual reality.

মন্দিরে মায়ের মূর্তি আমাদের ভক্তির কেন্দ্র। কিন্তু মায়ের তত্ত্বকে যদি শুধু মূর্তির মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ করি, তাহলে তাঁর বিশাল দার্শনিক অর্থটি ধরা কঠিন। প্রকৃতির পরিবর্তন, জীবনের গতি, মানুষের চেতনা—সবকিছুর মধ্যেই শক্তির প্রকাশ নিয়ে ভাবা যায়।
6. Why Bhuvaneshwari Governs Manifestation
The name Bhuvaneshwari itself highlights her relationship with Bhuvana (the worlds or realms of existence) and Ishwari (the supreme sovereign ruler).
However, I prefer not to interpret the word “ruler” in the ordinary human sense of political domination. At a deeper spiritual level, it indicates the Divine principle that encompasses, nurtures, and sustains all existence.
This makes her association with manifestation deeply meaningful: all forms arise within her cosmic field, exist within it, and eventually transform within her embrace.

7. Dispelling Misconceptions Around Material Fulfilment
Because Bhuvaneshwari is associated with manifestation and cosmic abundance, people sometimes reduce her worship to a transactional method for obtaining money, romantic relationships, or instant material success.
However, during my 34+ years in spiritual practice, I have maintained that serious spiritual philosophy must never make such commercial promises.
Authentic practice refines personal discipline, expands emotional perspective, and builds mental resilience. Therefore, we should never degrade sacred traditions into mechanical formulas for worldly gains.

In this sense, the philosophical principle of manifestation operates directly within our daily human experience.

Creation alone is never sufficient; what we create must also be preserved and nurtured:
- A relationship requires ongoing care and patience.

- A profession requires steady discipline.
- Spiritual insight requires regular reflection.
Therefore, preservation (Sthiti) is just as vital as creation. Bhuvaneshwari’s expansive presence reminds us that sustainable growth demands both openness and grounded stability.

Everything that manifests in the universe is naturally subject to change and transformation. This represents one of the most practical lessons of cosmic philosophy.
When we try to freeze situations permanently, emotional suffering increases rapidly. In contrast, Bhuvaneshwari’s vastness encourages a wider perspective—one in which both creation and transformation are accepted as natural facets of existence.

My Personal Reflection After 34+ Years of Practice
Over the years, my understanding of Mahavidya philosophy has matured deeply. In my earlier years, like many sincere seekers, I was primarily interested in external forms, rituals, mantras, and traditional descriptions. With time, however, I became far more invested in the living wisdom behind those sacred forms.
Bhuvaneshwari teaches us to cultivate mental and spiritual vastness. When the mind is narrow, every minor setback feels catastrophic. Conversely, when awareness expands, the exact same problem appears manageable and temporary.

মা ভুবনেশ্বরীর কাছে আমার সবচেয়ে বড় শিক্ষা—নিজেকে ছোট একটি গণ্ডির মধ্যে আটকে না রাখা। জীবনে সমস্যা আসবেই। কিন্তু সমস্যার থেকেও নিজের চেতনাকে বড় করতে পারলে সেই সমস্যাকে দেখার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি বদলে যায়। আমার কাছে এটাই মায়ের ‘বিশালতা’র একটি বাস্তব শিক্ষা।
