Among the Ten Mahavidyas, Bhuvaneshwari holds a particularly expansive position. Her sacred name invites us to look beyond the visible form of the Goddess and contemplate existence, space, creation, and universal consciousness.
The name Bhuvaneshwari is commonly translated as the “Sovereign” or “Queen of the Worlds.” However, during my more than 34 years of involvement with spiritualism and traditional practices, I have realized that we should never read this merely as a royal title. Instead, it points toward a much deeper Shakta truth: the Divine Mother serves as the vast field within which all existence becomes possible.

Together, Bhuvana + Ishwari = Bhuvaneshwari, the Divine Feminine who presides over all realms.
Furthermore, we need not understand “worlds” only as physical planets. In traditional spiritual philosophy, Bhuvana signifies diverse planes and dimensions of conscious existence. Therefore, Bhuvaneshwari represents something far greater than ordinary worldly rulership.

Traditional Tantra involves deep self-mastery and philosophy. Therefore, we must study Bhuvaneshwari’s symbolism respectfully rather than sensationalizing her.

That is why Bhuvaneshwari represents that sublime vastness which contains life without being exhausted by it.
