India’s unemployment situation presents a complex picture. Government data suggests a significant decline in the national unemployment rate, reaching 3.2% in 2022-23 [NDTV]. However, independent studies paint a different picture, with the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) reporting a rate of 6.8% in January 2024 [Forbes India]. While the reasons for the unemployment issue in India require further analysis, there are undeniable challenges in the job market.

As in May 2023:-

  • The Indian Staffing Federation stated that 6% of contract workers had lost their jobs in the IT sector in India in the March quarter.
  • In June 2023, more than 11,000 Indian start-up employees were laid off.
  • Tech companies fired more than 200,000 employees from their jobs.
  • More than 27,000 employees in Amazon are fired.
  • More than 21000 employees are fired in Meta.      

Possible Solutions:-

     While critical of this current situation, which might proposed solutions:-

  • Focus on creating high-quality jobs instead of just increasing employment numbers.
  • Reforming the education system to align skills with industry demands.
  • Encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • There is a direct need to focus on education. The government schools,   colleges, and institutes in our country need to improve infrastructure.
  • The government needs to take action on a large scale to promote cooperative and small and micro enterprises.

What do employees need to do to get a job?

  • Delete all the betting apps and gambling apps on your phone. This is a waste of your money.
  • Learn new skills. It can be any skill. Whether you can watch cooking videos on YouTube and learn to cook.
